4. What year(s) did Niagara Falls completely freeze over? This answer turned out to vary depending on what we view as "completely freeze over". True, the Falls never stop flowing, however during the mid 1800s and early 1900s, large ice dams were formed, stopping most of the flow over the Falls for a few days at a time. In 1912, three tourists were swept into the Niagara River after walking out on the Ice Bridge that broke. After then, tourists were no longer permitted to walk on the ice formed in the River. Thank goodness!
