Orthodontic Braces

So what are braces and what do they actually do?

Orthodontic braces are used to straighten and align the teeth to get them back into an appropriate bite position, improving your health and smile. They can be used to correct under bites, overbites, crossbites, deep bites, crooked teeth, open bites, as well as to widen the jaws and palate. At any given time, about 5 million people in North America are wearing braces.

Here are the different types:

  • Metal braces- Made of stainless steel these are the most common types of braces. They are small, and the archwires are activated by your body heat to move teeth quickly and less painfully than the braces of years ago. Patients often choose colourful rubber bands that are wrapped around the braces, making your experience unique to you!
  • Ceramic braces- Similar to metal braces but made of clear ceramic material, these blend more naturally with your teeth. This “camouflage” makes them a popular choice amongst adults.
  • Invisalign – A series of custom-made, clear, removable aligners over the teeth. These trays gradually move teeth to their proper positions. Also popular is Invisalign Teen for the active teenager.

Whether you are a tween or an adult,

achieving a healthy, confident smile is vital. In fact the American Association of Orthodontists suggests that children see an orthodontist by the time they are 7 years old. No referral is necessary, so call our office or fill out our contact form to schedule your complimentary exam.
